Review of Iran's trade with Central Asia


Iran's exports to Central Asian countries increased during the country's first month of the new calendar started on March 2013, compared to the similar period last year (1391).
However Iran's Custom Administration's latest published statistics show export values in first moth of Iranian year decreased significantly compared to the previous month (February 20 to March 20).
Iran exported $84,544,979worth of non-oil goods to these countries during Mar 20-Apr 20, 2013, indicating a 9.2 per cent increase compared to the same period in the last solar year and a 57 per cent decrease compared to the previous month in the Iran calendar.

The figures indicate around a 7.3 per cent increase in Iran's total non-oil exports to Central Asia during the last solar year, compared to the previous one.

Iran imported $23.8 million worth non-oil goods from Central Asia during the first month of the Iranian calendar year indicating a 56 per cent drop in value compared to average monthly imports from these countries during the last solar year.
Iran's imports from Central Asia decreased by 60 per cent in the first Iranian month compared to the previous one.
Iran has a gas deal with Turkmenistan as well. Iran imported about 4.5 bmc of gas from Turkmenistan during last solar year while this figure was about 12 mcm in the previous Iranian year.
Iran's total non-oil exports and imports during fist month of current solar year were respectively $2.497 and $2.037 billion. Total export and import statistics indicates respectively 11.1 percent and 38.99 percent decreases compared to same period in last solar year.
Iran exported $41.453 billion non-oil goods (including condensate and petrochemical products)and imported $53,348 billion worth non-oil goods during last solar years.

Iran in fighting with Caspian Sea pollution

Iran, with its largest population on the Caspian Sea shore among other littoral countries, is keen to save the world's biggest inland body of water from pollution and has initiated a "Comprehensive plan to reduce pollution" plan. The Fars News Agency quoted the head of Department of Environment Mohammad-Javad Mohammadzadeh as saying that the plan targets preventing entry of pollutants, including household waste, especially in Gorgan and Mazandaran provinces, to the Caspian. Meanwhile, Abdolreza Karbasi, the deputy head of Environmental Protection of Iran alarmed about the ecological state of beaches, releasing warning to swimmers in the Caspian Sea. Iran Launches Uncompleted Gas Project Citing Suspiciously High Production

Iran’s Oil Ministry officially opened four new phases of the South Pars gas field March 17, citing production and investment figures that don’t add up. The nominal production capacity of the newly opened phases 13, 22, 23 and 24 is 113 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d), but currently they are producing about half of that. The processing units of these phases are also operating at half capacity most probably due to Iran’s technical limitations compounded by sanctions. Phase 13 is projected to produce 56 mcm of natural gas and 75,000 barrels of gas condensate (ultra-light oil) per day, when it becomes fully operational. The capacity of phases 22-24 are together equal to phase 13. The Oil Ministry said all phases will be operating at full capacity within one year.
